Processing of F&B Linen and Uniforms

Today we will discuss on how linen and uniforms of the F&B(Food & Beverages) industry are processed

The F&B department in the hospitality industry plays an important role in terms of service delivered. Therefore linen management and washing plays an equally important part in F&B performance. 



Firstly let us discuss about the linen and then we will talk about the uniforms

A. Linen:

The various linens that need to be washed in the F&B sector are-

1. Table Covers

2. Napkins

3. Frills

4. Chair Covers

5. Ribbons

6. Dusters etc.,

SOP:

a. Sorting:

The linen has to be sorted in line with- 

1. White color

2. Light color and 

3. Dark color 


b. Washing:

Once the sorting is done next comes washing, the linen is washed using the appropriate set of chemicals, fabric softeners etc.,

Kitchen dusters need separate treatment to get rid of the soil & odour as they are heavily soiled

c. Ironing:

Steam ironing is preferable as most of the F&B garments are delicate in nature


B. Uniforms:

The various uniforms that need to be washed in the F&B sector are-

1. Chef Coats

2. Blazers

3. Kitchen Steward Uniform

4. Shirts

5. Trousers

6. Caps

7. Aprons

8. Waist Coats

9. Silk Sarees etc.,


SOP:

a. Sorting:

The uniforms are to be sorted in line with-

1. “To-be-Dry Cleaned” and “To-be-Washed”

2. Also unifroms are segregated as bright coloured, dark coloured, colour bleeding, and white coloured garments


b. Washing:


1. The uniforms shirts are to be treated for collar and cuff soil removal 

2. Whiteness and cleanliness are to be maintained at the highest level for the white colored garments

3. Color bleeding uniforms should not be processed with other garments

4. Stain Removal will be done separately in case they are not getting removed in bulk wash


c. Ironing:

Ironing should be done as per the type of fabric-

1. Steam Ironing

2. Hot Press

Therefore it is very important to follow the above SOPs while washing the linen & uniforms of the F&B Industry. This will definitely maintain the hygiene and quality.
